Word of God

DO YOU KNOW JESUS?

“This is he of whom I said, After me comes a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me. And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.” John 1:30-31

The above verses aroused more than a few curiosities related to the statements made by John the Baptist. The first statement is connected to the eternity of the Messiah. In fact, even though John was born a few months before Jesus, he says: “he was before me”; this refers to the pre-existence of Jesus, that is, existence from eternity. Furthermore, why did John say twice that he did not know him (vv. 31, 33)? The truth is that man is incapable of knowing God and the things that belong to God. Our sinful nature prevents us from penetrating the sphere of God. The divine remains mysterious. John and Jesus were relatives, were peers, lived in places not far away, yet the Baptist declares that he does not know him, referring to the divine character of Christ. We can make a parallel with our days. How many people think they are close to the Lord Jesus, because they go to mass or simply wear a necklace with the crucifix, but in reality they do not know his divine and salvific character. Still TODAY Christ is close to all humanity, but is not recognized. All those who repent of sin and accept him as “the Lamb of God” will be able to “find and recognize him”. Good day!
In the One who can do everything!
